There’s nothing I love more than chasing a goal. The satisfaction that comes with seeing a vision come to fruition? Priceless. There are so many productivity tools you can find about habit tracking, visualization, and action steps that will help you achieve your wildest dreams, but one trick that has consistently worked for me personally are vision boards.

If you’re looking to clarify your goals and stay motivated throughout the year, learning how to create a vision board is a powerful place to start. This step-by-step guide will help you design a vision board that aligns with your intentions—whether you’re manifesting big dreams or simply refocusing on what matters most. Let’s dive in, shall we? Your dreams are waiting!

How to create a vision board

What is a vision board?

A vision board is a piece of our manifestation toolbox to help us transition from intention to reality. No matter our goals, a vision board is a compilation of the visuals and words that represent what we want to accomplish.

It’s important to note that a vision board is not the same as a mood board. The difference comes down to aesthetic planning versus goal planning. While a mood board can help you plan everything from the look and feel of a photo shoot to the design of a living room, a vision board serves as a reminder of a goal or the intentions you’ve set for yourself.

Beyond that, when it comes to making a vision board, there are no rules! Identify what you want to bring into your life, and let that guide the way.

What are the benefits of creating a vision board?

Creating a vision board for goals is so much more than a fun activity. Visualization can be a powerful tool in helping us improve everything from self-confidence to performance to motivation. Here, the cliché applies: “Seeing is believing.” When we look at this visual representation of dreams and goals, we’re reminded of where we want to be—and the path it takes to get there.

If you create a physical or digital vision board with images that make you feel excited, joyful and inspire you to live that vision as if it were already true, it’s only a matter of time before it’s made manifest. TLDR: If you’re ready to fast track your goals, it’s time to make a vision or manifestation board!

How to Make a Vision Board, Step By Step

Not sure what to put on a vision board? Here’s a step-by-step guide to get you going.

  • Set your intention. No matter if you’re making one on a piece of poster board or curating a digital vision board to serve as your phone background—it all starts with an intention. Decide what you want! Are you interested in getting a raise at work? Perhaps you’d like to attract a partner or a larger group of friends. It can also be as simple as wanting something tangible—a bag, a car, a pair of shoes. The sky’s the limit!
  • Gather inspiration. Cut up old magazines or hop on Pinterest to compile images, words, and quotes that resonate with you. Don’t think too hard about it! Select what you’re attracted to at the moment. I find that it’s easier to sort through the images later as I’m starting to build my vision board. Be sure to prioritize clear images and easy-to-understand words that directly support and relate to your goal.
  • Curate and collage. With your images cut out, use glue, tape, or Mod Podge to adhere them to a paper or poster board. Alternatively, if you’re creating a digital version, you can use a program like Canva to design your vision board. The basic version is free and supports you with everything you need to get started.
  • Put your vision board where you’ll see it. This is important. For your vision board to work its metaphysical ways, be sure to position it strategically. Because I spend the majority of my weekdays at my desk, I keep mine posted behind my laptop, giving me the opportunity to look at it as often as possible. While you can place your vision board anywhere, other common areas include on the refrigerator, by your bedside, or framed up in your living room. Wherever you will see it most often is where your vision board will be most powerful.

Vision Board Ideas for Every Goal

If you need vision board examples, here are a few vision board ideas based on common goals. Whether you categorize your boards by goals or place them all on the same board is up to you—there’s no right or wrong way to do it! Just remember that your board should feel good to look at. Pick images that inspire joy—if it makes you smile, or if your heart skips a beat when you look at it, this is a great sign!

  • Career and Business: Find images of your dream office—big sunlit windows, a spacious desk, nearby frames of your most recent accomplishments on the wall. Imagine what the most successful version of yourself looks like, how she holds herself, what she wears—then find images that are similar to what you imagine. If there’s a specific place or brand you’d like to work for—place them on your board as well!
  • Relationships and Love: If you’re hoping to manifest a partner, find images of happy couples. Maybe they’re dining at one of your favorite restaurants, or cuddled on a couch. You could even find images of love notes, ideal date spots or gifts you’d like to give or receive from a partner. If you’re hoping to manifest friends, find groups of women gathering—dinner party images and girls night’s in.
  • Health and Wellness: Beautiful food, nourishing meals and candlelit baths are perfect if you’re hoping to manifest health and wellness. If you’d like to start a new gym routine, include images of your gym bag, workout shoes or your favorite gym outfit. Find images of healthy daily habits you’d like to implement, then
  • Travel and Adventure: Time to get out your travel bucket list! Fill your vision board with images of places you’d like to travel to. General city images are great, but you can get even more specific too. Is there a cozy bookstore in Boston you’d like to visit? Put it on the board. Want to eat a croissant in front of the Eiffel Tower? Put it on the board!
  • Home and Lifestyle: Want to manifest the home of your dreams? Find the exact wallpaper you like, a living room painted in your dream color and the coziest sofa. Want to live in a neighborhood with a tree lined street? Flowers on your front stoop? A big backyard? It all goes on the board. You can even find images of hobbies you’d like to try (pickleball, anyone?) or rituals you’d like to adopt at home, like movie nights or slow morning routines.

Vision Board FAQs

Q: How often should I update my vision board?

You can make monthly, quarterly or yearly vision boards—the main requirement is that it should contain things you’d like to manifest and it should inspire positive feelings. Signs that it’s time for a refresh? If the images feel stale, your goals change, or you’ve manifested the items on your board.

Q: Can I make a digital vision board instead?

Absolutely! Pinterest and Canva make this incredibly convenient.

Q: Where should I place my vision board for best results?

Wherever you will see it. Make it your phone background, your laptop wallpaper, or place a physical board on your bathroom mirror, at your desk, in your kitchen—anywhere you spend ample time.

Q: What are 2025-2026 vision board trends?

Digital vision boards are incredibly popular right now. It’s easier than ever to create something quick, and it’s arguably much easier to find images of exactly what you’re looking for online!
