If you’re breaking out the patio furniture for summer, be sure to grab a bottle of water repelling spray while you’re at it! Even if your patio furniture is already waterproof, it’s good to treat again at least once a season [or more if you experience a lot of rainfall!] to keep it dry and looking new. Think; cushions, throw pillows, umbrellas, grill covers, etc. So which brand is best? We took matters into our own hands — and pillows — to test six popular brands in search of the best!
After some research, I purchased six of the best-selling waterproof sprays on Amazon. I sprayed them on six different throw pillows [that are not already waterproofed!] and let them dry for at least 24 hours. Once they were dry, I put them to the ultimate test and poured a pitcher of water on top. Here’s how it went!

If you’re purchasing one outdoor spray, let it be this one! After pouring water over all the treated pillows, this brand was the clear winner and did the best job at repelling the water droplets .

While it wasn’t the best at repelling water [it still made the top 3!] we love that this brand is safe for people and pets. It’s non-toxic, non-flammable, safe for the environment, and made in the USA. Bonus: you can use it on indoor fabric as well!

Starting off strong with probably the biggest disappointment for me. Sunbrella is such a well known brand for outdoor materials, so I was bummed at these results. For the price, I’d go with 303 Fabric Guard instead!
I had high hopes for this brand, but just wasn’t impressed with the results. It might work better on different types of fabric, but not the best for this purpose.

Again, my expectations were high for this brand, but it left a very clear trail of water soaked into the pillow.
So, so bad, friends. Didn’t repel water at all. You can’t even see a water trail in the photo because it completely soaked into the pillow. Sorry, Star Brite. We were not impressed.
