Oscar-winning director Ron Howard is back with a powerful survival drama called Eden. The newly released trailer shows a chilling story based on real events that happened nearly 100 years ago on Floreana Island, a small part of the Galapagos. Starring Jude Law and Ana de Armas, Eden explores what happens when people try to escape the world but end up facing something even more dangerous: each other.
The trailer opens with a voice declaring, “
You are the very definition of survival of the fittest,” setting the tone for the story that follows. We are
introduced to a group of European settlers who leave their homes to live peacefully on a remote island in the early 20th century. But t
hings soon take a dark turn.

Jude Law plays Dr. Friedrich Ritter, and
Vanessa Kirby plays his partner, Dora Strauch Ritter. The couple left Germany in 1929 to escape war and economic troubles. They were the first to arrive on the island. Later,
more settlers joined, including
Heinz Wittmer (Daniel Brühl), his wife
Margaret (Sydney Sweeney), and
Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn (Ana de Armas), who
arrives with two lovers.
What starts as a dream for a quiet life turns into a nightmare. Tensions rise as the settlers clash. The trailer shows scenes of growing mistrust, heated arguments, and even violent fights with knives and guns. It becomes clear that the biggest danger on the island is not the wild animals or harsh weather—but the people themselves.
The official description of the film says Eden “unravels the shocking true story of disillusioned outsiders who abandon civilisation, only to find the greatest threat is each other.” As desperation increases, so does betrayal and violence.
Written by Noah Pink, Eden is a dark but true story based on real accounts of life on Floreana Island. It had its first screening at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024, and it released in Germany earlier this year on April 3. The film will officially release in theatres in the US on August 22, 2025. Besides the strong storyline, Eden features a talented cast, including Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Brühl, and Sydney Sweeney. The movie is produced by Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and others.
