Karisma Kapoor, along with her sister Kareena Kapoor Khan and brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan, returned to Mumbai after attending the funeral of her ex-husband, Sunjay Kapur in New Delhi. The ex-couple’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, were also present at the funeral. The funeral was held on June 19, following Sunjay Kapur’s untimely death in England on June 12. Reports suggest that the 53-year-old businessman suffered a heart attack during a polo match after being involved in a rare bee sting accident. However, the exact cause of his death has not been officially confirmed.
Karisma and Sunjay Kapur were married from 2003 to 2016. Though the couple separated years ago, they remained co-parents to their two children. Both Samaira and Kiaan signed the official funeral note issued by the Kapoor family, which also announced a prayer meeting to be held on Sunday, June 22, between 4–5 PM at the Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi. Karisma Kapoor’s name was notably absent from the statement.
On Thursday morning, Karisma was spotted at the Mumbai airport with her children as they left for Delhi. Kareena and Saif were also seen accompanying them. At the funeral, several photos showed Kareena closely supporting Karisma during this painful time.
The Kapoor family returned to Mumbai at night. All were seen quietly exiting the airport, avoiding any interactions with the paparazzi. The upcoming prayer meeting on Sunday is expected to be attended by close family, friends, and members of the business and film fraternity.
